- ДокументPolice Training or Police Education: View on the Matter(International Journal of Applied Exercise Physiology, 2020) Okhrimenko, Ivan; Yevdokimova, Olena; Shvets, Dmytro; Швець, Дмитро Володимирович ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1999-9956; Pakhomova, Nataliya; Fediy, OlgaIn any transformational processes taking place in society, the problem of the law enforcement system’s unhindered functioning plays a key role. In the light of recent high-profile events related to the activities of the police and other law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, the issue of the high-quality training of police officers has become extremely important. Different views on the course of police reforming, on the possibility or impossibility of forming a reliable specialist – a police officer in a short time are widely discussed in society. That is why it will be useful to attract the positive experience of foreign countries, which will lead to increased interest in studying trends and dynamics of the police system, finding new, flexible, and effective approaches to ensure certain changes and innovations. The paper presents an analysis of the results of reforming police training systems in foreign countries (USA, Europe, and Asia). The material for the study was the doctrines and views of modern scientists on the models and areas of the police institutes’ improvement; statistics characterizing the results of the reforms. It was determined that in modern psychological and legal practice, there are at least three approaches to assessing the need to increase the level of police officers’ training. It was emphasized that reforming the law enforcement system makes new demands not only on the personality of the police officer but also on the educational conditions of personality formation. It was argued that the content and technology of new police education should be aimed at creating such psychological conditions for the personality development of future professionals, which will ensure the formation of professional competence and actualization of the personal potential of police officers. Particular attention was paid to the consideration of reforms in the structure of the National Police in post-crisis situations. The question of the need to conceptualize the qualification requirements for a police officer and the creation of a modern model of police education was raised.

Materials and Methods: The research involved first-time certified police officers of different categories (n = 104) who studied at the initial professional training courses in 2019. In addition, we investigated the dynamics of police officers’ health indicators during their initial professional training courses and in the process of their service for one year, depending on the type of previous professional activities (2019-2021, n=112). Results: It was found that newly certified police officers of the 3rd category (police officers of a body, establishment, institution) have the worst level of psycho-emotional state and health indicators. Most police officers are characterized by a high level of anxiety and a low to below average level of health. At the end of the research, 58.1% of police officers had a below average level of health, 21.4% had a low level of health, and no police officers of the 3rd category had a high level of health. It is important to note that the level of health of police officers involved in the research has not changed in the course of one year of their service. Conclusions: The negative impact of the new conditions and peculiarities of training and service activities during the initial professional training courses on the psycho-emotional state and health of newly certified police officers has been proved.
- ДокументShort-Term Memory Training of Students during Foreign Language Learning(2020) Bratel, Olena; Kostiuk, Maryna; Bratel, Serhii; Братель, Сергій Григорович; Okhrimenko, Ivan; Filonenko, VolodymyrResearch is dedicated to short-term memory training for university students specializing in translation and interpreting. The purpose of the study was to consider the possibilities of increasing short-term memory capacity of the students who study French by regular training during their language classes. To check short-term memory capacity, a method of random reproduction was chosen. It is an experimental method based on a list of words that respondents have to reproduce in a random order after hearing them. The words for the tests were chosen on the basis of their usage, imagery, the effect of phonological similarity and the effect of the length of the word. During testing, the physiological state of the respondents, their age and the speed of the teacher’s reading were taken into consideration. To train short-term memory in French language classes, special tasks were created, and students performed them as part of class activities over a period of two months. The experiment showed that short-term memory training for students is effective and can be recommended for foreign language classes. The result of the experiment demonstrated significant growth in the short-term memory capacity of the students.
